Interesting Digestion Post
The most important work of digestion takes place at the small intestine. It breaks down the food we eat into molecular components which get absorbed into the bloodstream. There are three parts to the small intestine, the duodenum, the jejunum, and ileum. Bile from the gallbladder, and the digestive enzymes from the pancreas are mixed into chyme in the duodenum. The final breakdown and absorption of nutrients happens in the jejunum and ileum. The nutrients are absorbed by microscopic projections along the lining of the small intestine called the villi. This can also lead to health problems, because lack of absorption of vital nutrients.

I increased my sets for deadlifts from 3 to 4 on my second week which really helped me reach my goal. All the exercises I did before doing my last excercise the deadlifts really helped me reach my goal because every exercise made my back stronger so when it came to the deadllift I was able to lift heavier the next time. My back day is either Wednesday or Thursday, Monday is usually arms, Tuesday I like doing sholders, Thursday is usually my ideal day to do chest, I rest on Fridays, than legs are on Saturdays, and Subday I repeat a muscle, usually chest. I also started a healthier meal plan consisting a lot of protiens and less fats which helped build more muscle and I noticed eating healthier gave me more energy when I worked out.

Pig Dissection
Observations: The pig was much smaller than I expected it to be, and it actually looked fake, like it was made of plastic. When we cut it open the hardest thing I found to identify were the small and large intestines, they were squished into one so you couldnt tell which one was which. Everything else was suprisingly easy to indentify. Such as the lungs, heart, kidneys, and etc. The pig had no teeth but a tounge that stuck out of its mouth.
Interesting Urinary Post
I decided to do my post on kidney stones because it has happened to people I knew so I wanted to know what caused this to occur. The stones itself are made of mineral and acid salts. The stones form when urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals to crystallize and stick together. Passing the kidney stones can be painful but they usually do not cause any permanent damage.Depending on how severe it is, you might just need to take some medicine and drink lots of water to pass a kidney stone. It other situations people that are suffering from it a lot may need surgery to remove the stones.
Goldstone PE Project Final Reflection
1) The second time around we were more organized, which made it more fun for us and the kids.
2) A big challenge was getting the kids to listen to us especially the second time around because we had 60 kids.
3) My favorite moment as a leader was watching the kids have fun playing the games we had set up, that made the class a success for me.
4) I need to improve getting the kids attention faster and talking to them if they are not behaving.
PE Buddies
1) I learned that little kids never get tired even if they spend the whole class running.
2) Yes some of the kids still remember my name and wanted to be my buddy again so that was cool.
3) My favorite part of being a buddy was when they would make me laugh by doing the silliest things, it was a great experience.

Interesting Muscle Post
A main supplement for people that work out is protien shakes. It is a great and simple way to get protien to your body without having to make a meal. Sometimes you are in a hurry after the gym and you cannot make a proper meal with protien so a protian shake provides you the protien you need for muscle repair and growth.
How does protien help muscle repair and growth?
Without suitable protein, our bodies can't put together the structures that make up every cell, tissue, and organ, also your body will not generate biochemical substances needed for cardiovascular function, muscle contraction, growth, and healing. Without a suitable amount of protien after working out our muscles will not heal as fast. This could lead to injury because you will be overtraning your muscles.
When is the best time to take protien?
Right after a workout is the best time because than it can get to repairing the micro tears in your muscles.
Why is taking a protien shake better than eating a meal after a workout?
A protien shake will reach your muscles much faster than if you eat solid food because food takes much longer to break down, digest, and hit your muscles.
How much protien should you take?
The minimum amount of protien you should take to build and repair muscle is 1 gram of protien per pound of body weight.

Protien Lab
Questions
1) Peptide bond is found between the ammino acids in the primary structure.2) In the secondary structure polar peptide is formed between the amino acid, which causes the chain to twist.
3) It is due to the interactions between R groups, convalent bonds, it bonds, repulsion. It depends on primary structure in the a.a sequence. My protein would look different than everyone else because of the different letters.
4) Two or more polypeptides stick together.
5) Yes the shape structure would change if I changed the primary structure because there would be different amino acids meaning different interactions and different types of bonds.\

Colon Cancer Post
After watching the Colon Cancer surgery videos and seeing the pictures I was surprised on how they inflate the patients stomachs by inserting Co2 into it so they can get a better view for surgery. It was very interesting how they had the video camera inserted through a port so that could see what they were doing on a screen in front of them. What I really found interesting was how the put ink on the tumor to differentiate it. It was gross when they used a stapler to separate the colon than cut it out. I learned that you don't have to have symptoms to know that you have colon cancer, you can have it growing in you for years and find out after a body scam.
What is important to me?
In bio I have been getting all my blogs done and by doing so i learn more and more everytime i post a blog. My evidence is my quizes as i got 11/11 on one . That shows that I was paying attention in class and also did my blogs which helped me a lot to memorize the terms and structures. My second piece of evidence is my blogs such as the heart disection, the heart structure, diaphram and disection blogs all show how I have gained knowledge on the heart and how the funtions work. There is also labs like the lung (baloon) inflation/ deflation lab which gave me a good understanding on what happens when we inhale and exhale. These are just few of the manh blogs i have completed and they all have helped me get a better idea on what we are learning in bio so far. I need to improve by being more focused at times which will help me get even higher marks on quizes and such. I think i deserve around a 86%, 87% in bio because I have shown that I have been learning but there are still some things that need to be improved.
Im exercise scince i have shown that i have been learning along the way through my blogs. Examples my vo2 max, my body poster both show my understanding of my own body. My fitness goal was slitly achieved but i want to improve a lot for my second semester. I think I deserve around a 86-88 %.
In superfit I gave it my all in the things i was participating in like the beep test when i beat ms phillips and hill runs. My performance went down for a bit when school soccer was going on, i was faced with knee pain for a bit but after i picked it up again and on a recent hill run I gave it my all. I also went to almost all the field trips and enjoyed them a lot. I think i deserve around 86-90% in superfit.

Power: Plank
Agility: Box Test
Goal: I want to improve my flexibility so I can atleast touch my toes when I do toe touches.
Exercise:
- Ballistic stretching
- Dynamic stretching
- Active stretching
- Passive (relaxed) stretching
- Static stretching
- Isometric stretching
- PNF stretching
I will perfom each of these streches before and after my workouts to improve my flexibility.
My Skeleton
Bones Missing: Cranium, Patella, Phalanges, Facial bones, Tarsal, Carpal bone, Metacarpal bone and pectoral girdle.
Respiration Lab
Intro: The process of external gas takes place between air and the lungs. O2 goes into blood from air through the aveoli and CO2 goes into aveoli into air from blood, because of cellular respiration.
Part A : The result of the aerating of limewater remained the same there were no changes. However, the test tube we breathed jn became cloudy.
Part B : The beaker that was aerated turned blue/green and beaker with the other distilled water that was breathed into orange/yellow. Therefore, aerated was neutral and the breathed into one was strong acid.

Joints
Your ankle bone and the ends of your two lower leg bones make up the ankle joint. Your ligaments, which connect bones to one another, stabilize and support it. Your muscles and tendons move it. The most common ankle problems are sprains and fractures. A sprain is an injury to the ligaments, it is when the ligaments are stretched beyond their normal range of motion. It may take a few weeks to many months to heal completely. A fracture is a break in a bone. You can also injure other parts of the ankle such as tendons, which join muscles to bone, and cartilage, which cushions your joints. Ankle sprains and fractures are common sports injuries. I chose to write about the ankle because I am constantly spraining my ankle so i wanted more information on it.

My interesting post
- Tobacco smoke is harmful to smokers and nonsmokers. Cigarette smoking causes many types of cancer, including cancers of the lung, esophagus, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, pancreas, stomach, and cervix, as well as acute myeloid leukemia. Smoking reduces your lungs' ability to remove germs, dirt and the chemicals you expose yourself to when you smoke. The chemicals that cause cancer get trapped. The alveoli absorb the oxygen you breathe in and then get rid of the carbon dioxide as you exhale. When the alveoli become damaged, your lungs and heart must work harder to take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide, which leads to chronic lung disease. In addition to raising the risk of cancer, smoking also reduced the ability of the lungs to function. In particular, smoking reduces the vital capacity of the lungs, which is the amount of air the lungs can take in. This reduction in vital capacity has several important health effects.

Interim
Hi Mom and Dad!
This is my interim report for the Human Kinetics Coop.
So far, the highlights for me have been: the beep test, the rock climbing trip
I am the most proud of: my beep test score
The most interesting things I have learned about are: the heart, my respiratory system and how it works.
An example of when I really pushed myself in SuperFit is: When I did my first beep test, I had to really push myself to beat Ms.Phillips.
I could make improvements in: class by working harder at times and push my self a little more in super fit.
I am really looking forward to: Learning more about the human body in biology.
The Basics - WORK HABITS:
Attendance (classes missed and why) - Missed some classes due to soccer.
Participation in field trips (woo kim, grouse grind, rock climbing) - I went to all except the grouse grind.
Lates (how many & reasons) - Sometimes because i take long eating at lunch.
Preparedness for class (gym strip &/or supplies) - always
Class time management (are you using your class time to complete your work? engaged in class discussion? participating? following along? doing your best? or talking too much? ) - I complete all my work, I sometimes get distracted but I try to engage in class discussions.
Blog assignment completion - (out of 8 assignments) Comments?
