Interesting Digestion Post
The most important work of digestion takes place at the small intestine. It breaks down the food we eat into molecular components which get absorbed into the bloodstream. There are three parts to the small intestine, the duodenum, the jejunum, and ileum. Bile from the gallbladder, and the digestive enzymes from the pancreas are mixed into chyme in the duodenum. The final breakdown and absorption of nutrients happens in the jejunum and ileum. The nutrients are absorbed by microscopic projections along the lining of the small intestine called the villi.
