Hi Mom and Dad!
This is my interim report for the Human Kinetics Coop.
So far, the highlights for me have been: the beep test, the rock climbing trip
I am the most proud of: my beep test score
The most interesting things I have learned about are: the heart, my respiratory system and how it works.
An example of when I really pushed myself in SuperFit is: When I did my first beep test, I had to really push myself to beat Ms.Phillips.
I could make improvements in: class by working harder at times and push my self a little more in super fit.
I am really looking forward to: Learning more about the human body in biology.
The Basics - WORK HABITS:
Attendance (classes missed and why) - Missed some classes due to soccer.
Participation in field trips (woo kim, grouse grind, rock climbing) - I went to all except the grouse grind.
Lates (how many & reasons) - Sometimes because i take long eating at lunch.
Preparedness for class (gym strip &/or supplies) - always
Class time management (are you using your class time to complete your work? engaged in class discussion? participating? following along? doing your best? or talking too much? ) - I complete all my work, I sometimes get distracted but I try to engage in class discussions.
Blog assignment completion - (out of 8 assignments) Comments?

Vo2 Max
My vo2 level according to my beep test which was 13 is 57.5 which is excellent for a person my age. I plan to get a higher score on my beep test next time to improve my vo2 max.
Grouse Grind
During the grouse grind i went past my zone 4. I was breathing hard, my body temperature was rising. As I past the half way mark my legs started to feel fatigue and it became much harder to go up. After passing the last quarter my heart was at it highest and my muscles were starting to give up. Also after half i went from a,light jog to walking up the hill. I believe the energy system used during the grind was Aerobic because it was high endurance and my heart rate was increasing. My fat was used as fuel to give my body energy, so I could keep going and than was burnt off as sweat
and cellular respiration.

Heart Disection
The heart was a lot bloodier than i thought it would be. It made me sick looking at the heart and how real it was. It was bigger than i expected and didn't really look like a heart but more like a piece of meat.
internal observation:
I didnt see the heart in person but looking at the pictures i can see that the inside is a lot bloodier and lighter than it is on the outside. The heart looks like it will be soft and mushy from the inside.

QUESTIONS:
1) The most surprising thing for me was how bloody and real the heart was, i felt sick everytime i would look at it. I was suprised because i didnt expect to feel that way. 2) the atria only has one job to collect and squeeze blood into the ventricles. The ventricles are larger because they need to contract the blood.
3) The left ventricle pumps blood to the entire body while the right only pumps blood to the lungs.
4) The left AV Valves (mitral) function is to close when the left ventricle contracts to prevent back flow of the blood from the left atrium and right AV valves(tricuspid) function is to close when the right ventricle contracts. Then the blood from the ventricles can go out of the heart and into the blood vessels. Mitral and tricuspid valves open when the ventricles relax and let blood enter the ventricles from the atria.

Heart Anotomy

-Coronary arteries and veins are the blood vessels that supply blood and carry blood away from the heart muscle. The left coronary arteries supply blood mainly to the left side of the heart and vice versa.
STRUCTURE
FUNCTION
DEOXY/OXY BLOOD
LEFT ATRIUM
*collects returning oxygen rich blood
*Forces blood into mitral valve into left ventricle.
Oxy
LEFT VENTRICLE
* Largest and strongest chamber in heart.
* Ventricle wall only half inch thick but still forces blood through aortic valve.
Oxy
RIGHT ATRIUM
* Collets oxygen poor blood.
* Forces it through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle.
Deoxy
RIGHT VENTRICLE
* Collects oxygen poor blood from right atrium.
* Forces it into pulmonary valve and into lungs.
Deoxy
PULMONARY ARTERY
* Carries blood from heart to lungs to pick up oxygen.
Deoxy
AORTA
* Largest artery
* Carries oxygen rich blood from heart to rest of body
Oxy
PULMONARY VEINS
* Carry oxygen rich blood from lungs back to heart.
Oxy
SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
* Oxygen poor blood returns from upper parts of body to heart.
Deoxy
INFERIOR VENA CAVA
* Oxygen poor blood returns from lower parts of body to heart.
Deoxy
ATRIOVENTRICULAR VALVES (Mitral & Tricuspid)
Tricuspid- controls blood flow from right atrium to right ventricle.
Mitral- Controls blood flow from left atrium to the ventricle.
Deoxy/Oxy
CHORDAE TENDINAE
- bring right ventricular walls closer together during contraction
-pull the AV Valves open during atriole systole.
Left oxy
Right deoxy
SEMI LUNAR VALVES (Pulmonary & Aortic)
Pulmonary-Controls blood flow from right ventricle into pulmonary arteries.
Aortic- Largest artery, oxygen rich blood from heart goes to rest of body.
deoxy/oxy
SEPTUM
* Separates left and right atria and ventricles.

Why are we blogging?
Why did you take the co-op?
I want to get into physio therapy and taking this course will help me learn about the human body.
What are your plans for next year?To get into post secondary.
What activities do you like to do outside of school?I like to play soccer, hockey and hang out with friends.
Have you done any fitness activities over the summer?
Yes i played soccer 4 times a week.
What are your fitness goals for the semester?
To achieve my personal bests in most of the fitness activities.
Add any pictures/you tube links/etc., that help you show what you like and who you are.
What is important to you & helps to define who you are?`
